The National Women’s Hall of Fame (Hall) is seeking its next Executive Director. The Hall stands at a critical juncture as it prepares to expand its national footprint, enhance its exhibitions and programming, and strengthen its philanthropic partnerships.
What is the Hall looking for in a leader? Someone brimming with energy, fresh ideas, and a creative spirit. A willingness to adapt and grow, to leverage current structures and models for growth while thinking outside the box. The new leader will have the mindset of an
inventor, the financial acumen of a wizard, the patience of a saint, and a sense of humor to navigate challenges with grace.
While the necessary skills are listed below, the Hall is searching for more than just qualifications. They seek an innovator, a game changer, and a standard-bearer for its continued success.
Executive Director – National Women’s Hall of Fame
Seneca Falls, NY
Salary Range $95.000-$110,000 (full-time/hybrid)
The new Executive Director provides dynamic leadership and drives philanthropic efforts while overseeing policymaking, planning, organization, staffing, and operations. This leader works closely with the Board of Directors and staff to refine, develop, and implement a progressive program for the Hall’s national agenda, encompassing fundraising, exhibitions, educational activities, community outreach, and collections management.

Founded in 1969, it is one of the nation’s oldest organizations dedicated to recognizing, honoring, and celebrating the achievements of distinguished American women—many whose stories would have been lost to history if not for the Hall.

Located in the rehabilitated and historic 1844 Seneca Knitting Mill in Seneca Falls, NY, the Hall is poised to continue its tradition of growth, outreach, and impact. The Hall’s building offers numerous opportunities for programming, community outreach, and new exhibits.
An ambitious, forward-looking strategic plan marks the path forward. Small but mighty, the Hall has an annual budget of just over a million dollars and a board of directors committed to its growth on the national stage.
The new Executive Director will provide leadership, vision and direction to the Hall by setting its operational and cultural tone, coordinating with the Board on long-term planning and direction, implementing board policies, directing business and operational functions, and fostering resource development and membership growth.
Major functional areas include Organizational Leadership, Financial Management & Resource Development, Induction (odd-numbered years), Community Relations & Organizational Advocacy.
Professional Experience and Skills
- Senior or executive management experience in a nonprofit
- A record of success in fundraising working with donors, foundations, sponsors and government-related funding sources.
- Strong communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills with the ability to network and connect with diverse audiences.
- Strong management and organizational skills in leading staff and volunteer teams.
- Experience working collaboratively with boards of trustees or boards of directors
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in museum studies, museum management, business, public administration n, non-profit management, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong leadership
